At the Kuksaroy residence on June 12, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov met with United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, narodnoeslovo.uz

This visit provided an opportunity to exchange views on strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Nations, including in such areas as counteracting nuclear proliferation, sustainable social and economic development, solving environmental problems and rational use of water resources, resolving the situation in Afghanistan and restoring it, the fight against the threat of international terrorism and drug trafficking, and others.

During the talks, the parties discussed a wide range of regional and international issues, identified priorities for the further development of Uzbekistan’s cooperation with the UN and its specialized institutions and agencies.

At the heart of the issues discussed were the problems of preserving and strengthening security and stability in the Central Asian region, which are becoming a protracted nature of the problem of Afghanistan.

The signing of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework for 2016-2020 is an important milestone.

In Rome, a ceremony was held to reward the Member States of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for efforts to eradicate hunger. Uzbekistan became one of the 14 countries that received awards this year for achieving the Millennium Development Goals in the field of food security, said gazeta.uz

The country’s framework program for 2014-2017 provides for measures to diversify crops, improve livestock production and health, strengthen locust control, expand fish production and rational use of natural resources on a sustainable basis. Within the framework of the program, in particular, a project is being developed to develop organic agriculture in Uzbekistan.

According to gazeta.uz, the presentation of the Institute of Democracy and Human Rights was held on June 4 at the round table «Development of parliamentary democracy in Uzbekistan: national experience and international practice».

The Institute aims to develop democratic principles in state power, government and society, promote the protection of the culture of human rights, promote the steady observance of democratic principles in the management activities of state bodies and other organizations.

According to the director of the institute Sayyora Khodjaeva, a non-governmental non-profit organization, operating since March, has four branches in the regions of the country.
